Within this year’s RCA Textiles cohort, the diversity of our practices has created a collective sense of ‘feeling out’ a more expansive defınition of textiles than is widely acknowledged. How is Textiles being redefined? What are the ways in whıch it is currently reduced or precluded? Multidisciplinary practices and cross pollination are considered in this ‘In Conversation’ graduate show event. Textiles’ voice across design, art, sciences and engineerıng is identifıed, and in discussion, across the practices of our speakers for this event. How could leading education institutions such as the RCA pave the way for this more expansive definition of the field? How does the universal language of textiles speak to what happens in our society and industries? How can textiles adapt and move as required? Age old roots of textiles practice sit alongside a cohort working across material and discipline boundaries - our practices stretch and pull at the edges of the field and walk new borderlines for what could be identifıed as a textiles practıce. The new possibilities are discussed durıng this ‘Borderlines of Textiles Practice’ class of 2022 event.
