Bea Grant-statement

Bea Grant is a maker, a breaker, a filmmaker from West Sussex, UK.

Her work is concerned with formal indeterminacy, and the politics that come with it. She calls this an exercise in translucent assemblage. Her work aims not to dictate a message but to facilitate a condition for viewers. A condition of in-betweenness, of comfortable uncertainty.

Language, ink, ribbon, domestic building tools, secondhand furniture and contemporary plastics are the material means by which she achieves such a notion.

Her latest installation, Dull pink mush takes off at a gallop, begun with a text and utilises the performative qualities of language to shift into a physical spilling outwards through installation.

This is a landscape of bodies and beating heart muscles. Where dull pink mush takes off at a gallop. Letters clatter in the wake, struggling to keep up until they burst into myriad forms. They clamber into cardboard clay, they pulsate in papier mâché, they are born again in wool, stitching themselves into the seams. Form, structure, tone mark our principles of writing, thinking and making. Break the grammar. Get textural.
