My name is Huanfei Nie, I am a second year student majoring in painting. I come from Changsha City, Hunan Province, China. Being closely related to my life, painting is valuable and inseparable for me. There was a strong artistic atmosphere in my family, so I learned Chinese painting and calligraphy at the age of six as well as sketching and water colour painting since Grade 6 in my primary school. Under these conditions it seemed natural for me to choose painting as my undergraduate major. The four-year undergraduate education has provided me with an overall framework in painting, laying a solid foundation for my future study. At the same time, due to my intense interest in art, I taught myself illustration, binding and even graphic design, which strengthened my understanding in fine art. As a visual art - fine art is widely applied to various industries and supplies all kinds of possibilities for employment. According to my previous undergraduate experience, fine art is comprehensive and limitless. In other words, all things in the life can be the inspiration for creation. For example, I also worked as a designer in the costume company many years ago. It was the first time that I drew Chinese painting on cheongsam with propylene dye. The combination of painting and clothes was unique but harmonious, which won high appraisal from customers and boosted my confidence. In the future, I aspire to explore fine art further to take advantage of common issues in our life and use diverse materials in my works. This provided a lot of inspiration for my graduation exhibition works. From then on, I started the journey of comprehensive painting.

In my previous works, I have tended to focus on social issues and combine them with my own experiences and feelings. I want to seek a kind of self-healing in my art and I want to use art to criticise negative phenomena that are happening. Whether it is a global or local issue - I want to use art to call out and awaken people who are asleep at the moment. I hope that art can be given a social function.
