Shengpo Ye-statement

Shengpo is a jewellery designer and artist. His brain always weighs two states of imbalance. Human aesthetics, the value of materials, the secrets of the origin of species, the higher dimensions of soul and life. He always seeks a state of self, even if this era has no answers and he is not willing to be swallowed up by it.

He constantly uses art as a medium to express his concepts and learns in the process of this transformation. He prefers to be the only audience for his work than to create an artwork that satisfies what people perceive it to be.

People's lives are filled with memories and dreams, and life is the origin of all things and the only thing that holds mankind captive. If all the information in the universe has been determined, and time is the best hold in proving it all. Physicists would define the universe with a formula, and the human subconscious might be the only X-variable factor in this formula. Escape from perception, environment, emotions, rules, is the only answer for man to approach his subconscious and explore himself. He may spend a lifetime and pay a tragic price until death to escape this 6 million year bondage.

Who am I?, Mirror, canvas.

In this work there are 50 mirrors and the concept of mirror stages is used. Each mirror has a period of 6 months, so they show the process of my growth time. I write on the mirrors in my native language "I". You can see that after the 4th mirror I started to write, expressing that I was becoming conscious. But when I turned 12, I didn't want to write anymore. It was because I had too much education and rules, I was influenced by my environment and I slowly didn't know myself anymore. It wasn't until this year, through constant learning and talking to my tutor, that I started to realise who I am and what I want. So in the last mirror, I wrote a complete "I".

Look, Mirror , Canvas

This work mainly wants to express my scars. I cut the canvas with a knife, as if I were cutting my skin. And my scars are due to the domestic violence I experienced as a child. And behind the scars there is a mirror in which I see myself. And it's more like the subconscious mind is looking at me in the mirror. Even though I was subjected to physical violence, my subconscious and my mental mind were also affected.

Confusion, Hair, Canvas

This work is mainly created with my hair. These hairs are very special to me. These hairs grew during the development of this project for me. When I went to get my hair cut, I collected them. And when I was creating this work, I was very confused, so I used these hairs to develop a very confusing situation.

Escape, Canvas, Plaster, Clay, Wire mesh

In this work there is a lot of barbed wire, mainly expressing the fact that there are many things or dimensions in this world that are unknown to us and that surround us all the time. When we want to take control of our subconscious, we need to go to a higher dimension, so we have to escape from our present body and consciousness. These two hands are moving outwards to escape and have caught the brink of consciousness. The red colour was chosen because of the price and the effort we need to put in if we want to understand the higher dimensions and the subconscious. Our hands would bleed through the layers of barbed wire. And the skull was chosen to show that we may not always reach the subconscious or the higher dimensions until we die. But it's a good attempt and I believe it has value for everyone.
