Xingkai Wang-statement

The project aims to inspire people to think and re-examine the role of communication technology in our everyday lives and questions if it’s us who controls technology or technology controls us? What have we gained and lost from the communication transformation brought about by the covid-19.

Xingkai -- a speculative future communication technology. It is embedded in people's daily online communications, through interactive installations and programming, which identifies and processes the communication among people and simplifies it into a digital message (emoji). It then transmitted into a chat window allowing people to ‘better express themselves’.

My project explores a future scenario where people lose their ability to express their emotions without assisting technologies like Xingkai and allow the audience to gain insights into the dystopian future represented by Xingkai and re-examine our current relationship with it.
