Textiles (MA)
About
Head of Programme, Textiles – Anne Toomey
Thinking through making - Textiles at the RCA operates at the intersection of design, craft and fine art. We focus on radical experimentation, material exploration and transformation.
The programme fosters the development of a personal creative identity through a combination of individual, personally driven initiatives, collaborative work, industry orientated, and interdisciplinary projects.
RCA Textiles 2022 showcases emerging talent with a focus on material transformation in relation to emotion and identity; the connections between materiality and humanity. Students have questioned how they UNFOLD and redefine applications of textiles in a post Covid-19 world.
Having embraced the innovative potential of digital platforms and forging new, reconsidered connections with the physical material world, the 2022 Textiles cohort - now Unmuted - are ready to UNFOLD, to extend, to evolve and to reveal new possibilities, perceptions and definitions of textiles.
An active metaphor, a moving evolution, a shifting industry, UNFOLD showcases previously unseen conversations, stories and ideals within materials, objects, environments, senses, ourselves and others. We are tremendously proud to present the class of 2022 where textiles suggests new possibilities, potentials and ways of thinking.
