Previous to undertaking the MA Painting at the RCA, Albano Hernández took a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, UCM. His latest solo exhibitions have taken place at the Salvador Victoria Museum (Spain), Collège d'Espagne (France), Fundación Iturria (Uruguay), and the University of Cambridge (UK).

In 2012 Albano won the BMW Painting Prize and the Obra Abierta Award three years later. His studies at RCA have been sponsored by the Basil H. Alkazzi Scholarship Award and he has been shortlisted for New Contemporaries 2022. His work is part of public and private collections such as the University of Cambridge (UK), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (Spain), College of Spain in Paris (France), José Saramago Foundation (Portugal), António Prates Foundation (Portugal), Iturria Foundation (Uruguay), Ankaria Foundation (Spain), Ars Citerior Collection (Spain), National Library of Spain, BMW Ibérica (Spain-Portugal), Venancio Blanco Foundation (Spain), and UBS Europe SE (Spain).

Statement

English version

Perception, value and productivity constitute the central axis of my practice. Growing up in Ávila–a region of Spain where meat consumption is a great part of the culture, and where the meat industry comprises a significant weight in the region's economy–has led me to work with the aesthetics that meat generates as a commodity. I have obsessive thoughts with the processes of fragmentation, packing, distribution and exposure of animal bodies under the meat label, with a special emphasis on processed meat and the simulacrum of fake meat. I focus on how commodification modifies the perception of matter. Read more

Percepción, valor y productividad constituyen el eje central de mi práctica. Crecer en Ávila, una región de España donde el consumo de carne forma parte de la cultura, y donde la industria cárnica tiene un peso significativo en la economía de la región, me ha llevado a investigar en la estética que genera la carne como mercancía. Me obsesionan los procesos de fragmentación, empaquetado, distribución y exposición de cuerpos de animales bajo la etiqueta “carne”, poniendo especial atención a la carne procesada y al simulacro de la carne artificial o sintética.
