Statement

Mila Morelli works across film, photography, object-making, drawing and performance.

Recent work investigates play theory and the ways it explores survival not as a mere question of maintaining life, biologically speaking, but how we enhance adaptive capabilities and resilience. Play can be seen as a self-protecting process that changes the architecture of the brain, an essential component of health and well-being. It also considers ways in which child object identification, representation, gender and sexuality become embroiled in adult life and the ways these might take on a fantastical or bizarre scale. I believe it is essential to continue creating works that express identity as fractured and infinitely multitudinous.
