Alexander Roys

I am a London-based designer graduating from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Fashion. Before coming to the RCA I interned and worked with tailors to learn pattern-making as well as garment construction from the ground up. Initially specialising in menswear, I soon realised that my work is not solely about men. Nor is it solely about women. My work is for everyone. It is about us all together in our individual beauty and about being open, elegant, approachable and enjoying the sensuality of life.

After graduating from the RCA, I will launch my label which will be based in London and focus on sensual and elegant tailored silhouettes that are dedicated to the beautiful diversity that is humanity.

Show Location: Battersea campus: Studio Building, Third floor

Alexander Roys-statement

My work circles around a vision I have. A vision that is utopian and yet attainable. With my practice I want to make a point for freeing people of boundaries. I design for people who are liberated from any protective armour - both physically and emotionally speaking. In my world, we are approachable, emotionally generous and sensual. I find strength in delicacy, bravery in openness.

The collections I design reflect this through a sensual and inviting elegance. Traditional tailoring is being rethought in its structure to mirror transparency and generosity. The established way of constructing garments like suits and coats in a rigid and protective way, serving the purpose of armour, is being deconstructed in favour of silhouettes that are open and sensuous. This is achieved through a more fluid and soft construction method itself as well as through layering techniques and the use of transparencies, once again referring to the approachable character of the protagonists. I want to create clothes to make people feel desirable, to lift them up, to make them feel sensual and ready to have fun.

My work is an expression of radical and universal acceptance. It is about celebrating the beautiful diversity that is humanity. I want my work to bring people together, to make them come closer to one another without protective armour and to indulge life in a respectful hedonism.
