Background

The "Crypto" movement started in 2008, when the anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto published his famous peer-to-peer payments system called Bitcoin. In the beginning, most hype was focused on the Bitcoin currency itself, but over time the underlying blockchain datastructure proved useful for applications beyond simple monetary transactions. In 2014, Vitalik Buterin published the Ethereum whitepaper and blockchain together with a Touring-complete programming language called Solidity. This allowed developers to build applications and "smart contracts" on top of the underlying trust layer provided by the blockchain and led to the emergence of a fascinating new organisational structure: Decentralised organisations that collaborate globally and digitally, making full use of the new tools offered by tokens, smart contracts and programmable money. Researchers describe these digital decentralised organisations as a sophisticated new form of human collaboration that may go on to compete with established corporate and governmental organisations.

Interface

PNYX is an operating system for crowd organisations powered by smart contracts and digital tokens. The novel affordances of distributed ledger technologies unlock a new era of digital and global collaboration and PNYX makes these tools accessible for people who are not yet part of the crypto-movement. The initial target groups for PNYX are corporate and academic alumni networks.
