Service Design (MA)

Gabriella Mas

I see design as the ability to break through barriers and create meaningful experiences that are truly human and inclusive. My motivation to become a service designer was fueled by my passion for problem-solving and connecting the dots. Our world needs change, and I want to be part of the solution.

I graduated from Georgetown University in 2018 with a BA degree in international relations and art. I went on to work as a strategist and art director at AKQA New York, a global design and innovation agency, where I designed concepts and customer experiences for Nike, evian, Volvo, and Verizon.

Gabriella Mas-statement

In order to create meaningful experiences, and ultimately a better future, we must focus on the human beings, systems, and emotions behind the work.

The inspiration behind my current project, (re)boot, came from my experience as a footballer and as an employee of a professional football club, Inter Miami CF, seeing immense amounts of waste in the industry.

My hope is to help pave the way for a more sustainable future through sport and design.

(re)boot Recycled Packaging Box
(re)boot Recycled Packaging BoxWorn and damaged football gear is collected and sorted by football clubs and athletes at the end of the season, ensuring it does not end up in a landfill. Waste is collected in a recycled box, and then delivered to the recycling partner.

(re)boot App
(re)boot AppThe (re)boot app will serve as a resource for collecting and recycling football waste, as well as shopping for recycled boots, while being rewarded for returning worn out equipment. Professional athletes will be able to share their (re)boot journey with their fans and followers through social media integration.

(re)boot is a waste management service designed to serve our planet through football and fashion. (re)boot collects, sorts, and disassembles football industry waste that is then recycled and remade into new football gear and equipment for professional and everyday athletes.

I envision partnering with adidas as the product manufacturer, and using I:CO USA as a recycling partner, as they are the first to make it possible to mechanically disassemble all shoe types into their components, and derive usable secondary raw materials from them. adidas has worked with them on various projects already.
