About

Zhang Yucheng, born in Hangzhou, China, is curious about all that is unknown and new, addicted to science fiction, the universe, the future and cyberpunk.

His favourite director was Kubrick. His favourite film is Blade Runner. It is no doubt that the Interior Futures platform is his home and he spent a very fulfilling and enjoyable year of study here. He is quirky, radical, imaginative but subtle, observant and good at creating a sense of ritual and atmosphere in spaces in interior design.

The project he wants to present is a radical discussion about the possibilities of drone applications in the future world, envisaging future human social barriers, memory storage for drones and building a therapeutic experience.

Statement

Life storage company


The future world has been hit by a more serious epidemic that has caused decades of isolation, after which people have lost their social interactions, grown numb and become 'islands'.

The Life Storage Co. uses drones to document people's lives and establish a public memory archive, thereby offering memory-sharing treatments that will progressively help patients to recognize themselves, share their struggles and make friends

This will allow people to truly appreciate and understand others, and to return to society and social groups from the "islandic syndrome".

The Future Chisenhale

The Renovation
The Renovation — We hollowed the broken middle part. Parasitise the drone hive on two sides of the fracture. Assemble five spaces to build the treatment tower. Build multiply drone landing tracks to symbiosis the old building, new tower and the hive.
The AXO
The AXO — Our Life Storage Company retained the original red brick walls on two sides and used all the old columns and metal structures to support the parasited drone hives and healing towers.
Drone Container
Drone Container — We use small containers to collect the drones that carry the memories.
Drone Hive
Drone Hive — When the container on the track has collected the drones, it will be transferred to the hives on two side and stowed away.

Session1：Stage

Truman's memories are recorded by the drones, where the awakening of self-awareness is the first step in the healing process
Truman saw his memories being played out on the screen and looked at himself, and at that moment he truly discovered himself and knew who he was

Session2：Booth

Truman enters the booth, where there are three pairs of private speaking and listening rooms. Islanders are allowed to speak their strugglings here, which would be recorded and left here as a memory fragment.

Session3：Archive

Truman found his scarf was displaying on the middle platform. Truman is glad to see others come here, share and record their precious memories of his scarf. Truman felt his memories being recognised, his scarf creating a connection between him and others.
The archive. This is a room to display memorable items. Anyone can share memories on other people’ items and receive memories from others too.

The Handshake
The Handshake — ”Stranger, even if you can't see me, will you shake my hand?“

The Steps — “I often feel disconnected from the group and the physical contact of a handshake makes me feel less alone now.”

The top of the tower, Truman sees the homecoming of countless drones, thinking back on his life and everything in today's treatment, at this moment, he thought, he is not alone anymore, he is not an islander anymore.
