Zhuyin Xu

With a background of fashion textile in London College of Fashion, seeking for another possibilities of the textiles is Zhuyin's ambition for her master. The nature is always the therapy for Zhuyin during the pandemic, therefore, she records her dialogue and collaboration with the nature through her works.

Zhuyin's works emphasize poetic feelings, sensitive emotions and tactile sensation. Textile always has a close connection with tactile sensation and emotions. Zhuyin keeps experiencing touching through textile as well as exploring touching memory and bodily experience of textile. She works closely with the nature. Her work is an evidence of bodily dialogue between herself and the nature.

Walking in the woods, the earth always has the best healing power. I collected fallen branches and started my dialogue with them through textile. With the crochet, textile turns into the visible evidence of my tender and careful touch. With the crochet, we spent quite a length of life together. I made them gifts and submitted my knitting and my identity to them as a materialized dialogue, the language and the communication through touching and being touched. In this way, we shared a period of memories, and we exchanged a part of our lives.

Tree Whisper is made up of mass of wind chimes, which are made from ceramic and yarn. These wind chimes are hung on the branches inspired by the form of wishing tree. Instead of writing wishes, instead of hoping the spirits of the nature to fulfil the desires of mankind, I engraved some Chinese poems about trees onto the ceramic and painted with the colour of nature. When the wind blows, the trees will talk loudly through these wind chimes.
