Statement

I want to talk about uncertainty faced by myself, my friends, and my generation. My journey in this project reflects who we are. It is not a concept but a layered context with talk with friends, raving, philosophy, and my Korean background.
Intertwining with philosophy Martin Heidegger’s Throwness(Geworfenheit) & Projection(Entwurf), I wanted to use paradoxical function and a poetic approach to the design process. I drew self-defensive soldiers who are exhausted but angry, fragile but strong and wandering between adult and adolescent. For me, uncertainty is duplicity, paradox, and chaos.
In terms of the design process, I tried to make protective gear with no protective function with a paradoxical approach. I made spiral-shaped soft material with moulding technique and wrapped it with leather. I mixed fragile jersey and leather, layered see-through jersey and did sprial-shaped pattern cutting to show duplicity and uncertainty.
As my work comes from some raw energy of communities, I explored with my musician, DJ, photographer and model friends on this journey. Through this project, I realized that uncertainty is a fear of ego and is, in fact, the first step towards freedom, and action of resistance in which we come to enjoy chaos, decide intuitively, and trust our gut.
