Nothing about Us, without Us

The RCA Disabled Students’ Network (DSN) is a self organised group of disabled students and Alumni at the Royal College of Art. We were established 10 months ago with the aims of providing peer support for disabled students, highlighting and improving disability access at the RCA and most importantly promoting disability arts and the social model of disability.

We have membership from students and Alumni across the RCA who define as disabled people. We have arranged a series of events this year from celebrating Disability History Month, to promoting accessibility issues in branding and researching funding sources.

It has been our privilege to curate this collection. This has provided the Disabled Students Network with the opportunity to highlight the importance of disability access, disability equality and disability arts across the RCA community. Curating the collection has enabled the Network to connect with a wider range of disabled students and to showcase their practice. The #socialmodelofdisability is central to our work so we begin the collection with work using this most political of hashtags. The wider collection includes a selection of work that responds to disability access and equality issues and images that respond with a personal perspective.
