Edibana Kit Gift of Health and Sustainability

Himari is a creative design engineer passionate about solving issues using Design×Technology×Creativity to bring out innovative outcomes which will make someone in the world smile.

She comes from a hardware engineering background having received her BS in Environment and Information degree from the University of Keio in Japan. Besides many internships and projects within the field of engineering and design, she worked at Apple in R&D before joining her master’s. She’s currently pursuing a double master’s degree in Innovation Design Engineering run jointly by the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London.

From being both a designer and engineer who has worked in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, she is willing to bridge the gap between design and engineering to achieve a high resolution that will have value to our environment and society.

People enjoy having flowers as a gift, but do you know about their dark side?

The mass-produced cut flowers going into the landfills lead to biogas emissions, which are 25 times worse for the environment than carbon emissions, therefore this project aims to bring a change to floral waste.

Edibana kit creates a new opportunity for the flower gift-giving ritual to become sustainable for the environment and for maintaining our health. Edibana is named after “edible” and “bana” meaning “flowers” in Japanese. This kit will allow the customers to enjoy the edible flowers from the same stalk for a year by using the flower plucking method, in which you pluck the flowers before it wilts and it will bloom again within a week to nine days. This kit will be able to produce the flowers continuously for a year within your home by not producing waste.
